The excitement peaked today at the Team wrestling competition in Montague. Team Sask came out strong against Newfoundland & Labrador winning the dual with a score of 58-1. The tension rose and the crowd was electric as Team Sask and Team Ontario battled it out for top spot in the pool in the afternoon dual. Team Sask pulled four wins in the dual for a total of 19 points, while Ontario scored 36 points, securing their spot in the gold medal match.
Evening action had team Sask pressing BC for the bronze medal title. Saskatchewan held BC to three points for the first 4 matches (17 – 3). BC closed the gap with the next four matches. Kelsey Gsell (70 kg) showed tremendous composure to reverse the disadvantaged position to secure the win in her weight class. Adrianna Morrison (80 kg) lost her bout, but her efforts were rewarded by the single point gain to secure the bronze medal for Team Sask, with a final score of 29 for Team Sask and 19 for BC.
Tomorrow’s competition will highlight the individual competitions with Team Sask having eleven wrestlers in the semifinal rounds and one wrestler in the fifth/sixth placing round.
