The Canada Games 2009 Regatta came to a close on a beautiful sunny day in Summerside PEI. The decision was made to stay on the water for the day and finish all the races as conditions were great. However, it does make for a long day on the water for the sailors; Kudos to all of them. The 29er females (Kristine Coons and Tanys Byrns) had a best race of 4th place and finished 7th overall. They had great speed and starts. Kristine Coons charted her own course and did very well. Their male counterparts (Kendall Ross and Jordan Guillou) had a final placing of 8th. The 29er’s raced a total of 14 races while the Laser course completed 10 races. Sydney Byrns had a 3rd place finish in her final race of the series while brother Payton had a 4th place in his last race and both had a final placing of 7th. Feet are healing after falling victims to the mussels attached to the rocks at the dock. Peanut butter, bagels, and granola bars, served “a la carte” by manager Rachelle Kelln, saved the day! Team Sask Sailors Quote of the Day: “It might be early but, it is really too late!” Coach’s Quote of the Regatta (Mark Lammens): You train them and hope to give them skills that will bring them success at an event of this nature and it is either a surprise or a disappointment to see that the standard here is so high”.
